SD-TOO.com Review of Forces of Nature

Last Saturday, April 2nd SD-too.com had the privilege of attending and photographing the “Forces of Nature” Art Show at Thumbprint Gallery 2. Hosted by Brady Willmott of 454 Tattoo and Sierra Colt of Bearcat Tattoo Gallery. Both artists came up with the idea of doing their own solo show after participating in a number of large group shows. Both artists were motivated to paint and pushed themselves to create an entire collection worthy of a solo show. Needless to say that both artists hit it out of the park.

Sierra’s collection focused on hands and the people they are attached to. Telling the story and emotion of the subject while only focusing on the hands. Hard to do, but Sierra composed each oil painting in a way that shows you don’t need to see an entire subject to create a story and feeling. His pieces range from a self portrait to his son’s hand telling the story of moments in time.

Brady’s collection features surreal images of morphed human and animal creatures. Combined to tell the story of social issues or just to get a questioning head tilt to figure out exactly what the collaboration of species is. Using his talent for oil painting Brady combines his subjects that is entirely his own, from skulls to surf to hot rods, Brady twists and turns his pieces into incredible works of art.

Originals and prints of most the pieces from the show are available for sale. Contact the artists directly if you are interested in purchasing something new for your collection.

  • Hannya Mask Project

    Hannya Mask Project
This project is probably the most amazing art exhibit this year. 50 artists were invited across the United States to create a work of art from a blank white hannya mask. The masks will be shared in an world wide online auction and all the proceeds will go to the Japanese Red Cross. I am very fortunate to be involved and have worked countless hours creating my mask. I have called it "Mother's Nature" My piece is intended to hang on the wall and an alive ivy plant should be put in the planter with in it. go to hannyamaskproject .com for all the details and to view all the masks on the 19th of November.

  • February 10th, 2009..............Large Back Piece

I have a personal tattoo idea that I want to put on someone. I am looking to do a huge japanese back piece of a Japanese demon head with almost dead leaves flowing around and a wind element. I want to capture the seasons changing to fall within a Asian tattoo scene. This is a personal vision and I will show you more if your interested. I am flexible to add in your ideas as well.

I am willing to give this tattoo for 100 per hour and am ready to start. If you are interested ring me up and we can meet up and see if the idea is right for you.

If you have any questions hit me up.

  • 01-29-2009 .................Bus Trip on February 21st

My band "Pushin Rope" is playing the Belly Up in Solana Beach on Feb. 21st We are taking a 50 person party bus from Pacific Beach up there that evening. If you want to get in on the action let me know and I will get a ticket to you. I think the price will be 30 bucks witch includes the party bus to and from, a ticket into the show, and beers on the bus.

This is a big opportunity for us. We recently played Canes to about 450 people and were hoping to make this even better.

  • 01-15-2009 ................. Winter Projects

This winter has been very exciting for me. Along with planning my wedding, playing an Pushin Rope, and of course the "bachelor party" I have started a bunch of new projects. I have started posting them on my "In Progress" page if you want to take a look.

However, I am still full of creativity and ready to start a few more large pieces before Summer hits. If your interested hit me up on of our many communication devises and we will start some dialog on your next piece. There's a small wait but I usually can get your initial outline on within the first 2 months of our consultation. If your itching to get in right away, you can get on my cancelation list and I will ring you if something opens up.

I hope everyone had a great holiday.

    Much Respect,
    Sierra
